How can journalling help you store less clutter?

This is an interesting one and is really only something you can do going forward to guarantee it to work, however you can certainly go back and try and fill in the gaps.

No matter what, the majority of the conversations I have with people and where they struggle most is with the things they have memories attached to. They can’t let go because they are scared that the memory will fade and will be lost forever. By keeping said item they are forever reminded of that moment in time. However, I am sure you have also found this, the memory isn’t perfect. It is a bit blurry round the edges. The exact date may be forgotten, the exact location or who you were with or what the weather was doing etc and so as time goes on it is more the feeling that you keep onto rather than the specific memory and that is what is so hard to let go of. That feeling.

Unwanted Gifts

I have found that unwanted gifts is a really controversial topic. People feel icky about it, like talking about money but why?

When working with clients, decluttering their homes or talking to people on social media about letting go of their things, one of the biggest stumbling blocks is letting go of something someone else gave to them. They may not use it any more, it may be out of date or no longer fit or they may have never liked it in the first place but it stays in their home for the sole reason that it was gifted to them by someone else.

Do you still have CD’s and DVD’s?

I remember a fair few years (decades) ago now sitting in my room on a Sunday night recording the top 40. Finger hovering over the stop button just as the radio host started talking. The closest we ever got to a playlist. Lord help my parents if they dared call me downstairs for any reason during the 4 hour task!

Or how about taping our favourite films that were finally on TV and the handwritten labels lining our shelves. Doesn’t it feel like a completely different world?

Organising for your personality

Have you ever wondered into a shop and looked at the organisational products and felt overwhelmed by the choice and how on earth you would use them in your home?

Or, watched one of the TV shows (The Home Edit on Netflix or Sort Your Life Out on BBC) and thought you would love to do that, but you wouldn’t be able to keep up the systems or even know where to start.

The truth is, there isn’t a one size fits all approach to organising. Different clients need different systems in their space and that is because we are all different. We all have different family needs. Some of us have more time than others, some like their homes to have a different style to others and of course we all have different budgets too.

New Year New You… and so the cliché continues

Who else is sick of hearing that saying? Every year it starts and every year those goals are set and every year you forget about them within a couple of weeks and the cycle starts all over again.

Why your to do list doesn’t work

What do you think of when you think of a to do list?

I think of a long list of tasks on a big bit of paper. Any task, any order just written down as you think of them. There may be ticks next to some tasks or even crossed out but not in order, all ticked/ crossed off in random places.

Sound familiar?
